Join us for the first in a series of Spring Walking Tours of Skyway Park on Saturday, May 7. Tours will consist of two parts; choose one or, better still, both:
Jersey City has not yet broken ground for the new park. Right now, the “park”– a former Superfund Site– sits vacant, decades after it was cleaned up. The “trails” are a bit wild, so firm shoes and hiking clothes are recommended. Part of the charm of these tours is the before-and-after (someday soon) contrast. Be prepared for an adventurous walk. Total time: 2-3 hours. You can, of course, leave at any time.
A few cautions: 1) There is limited parking behind the warehouse. There is a parking lot at the main entrance, near where the JCFD does its training. Park to the left near the gate. 2) Please email us if you plan on coming, to give us a cell phone # so we can call in case of any problems such as bad weather. But you can come without prior notice if you prefer. We will be doing more tours in the coming weeks and months. Get in touch if you cannot make this one but are interested in others. We can do tours during the week as well. Hope to see you a week from Saturday. (Bike tours are on hold until the demotion of the old Wittpenn Bridge is completed. They have blocked off the underpass that connect Broadway to Duffield Avenue– and allows us to ride from Skyway Park all the way up to Laurel Hill Park in Secaucus, along what will soon be the Essex Hudson Greenway. We will get in touch as soon as the trail is re-opened.)
